The International Studies Curriculum

Differing from the General Studies curriculum, the International Studies curriculum centers upon foreign languages and international liberal arts. In addition to studying English, students in the International Studies division also study Chinese. We provide opportunities for students not only to deepen their understanding of their native country - Japan - but also to give thought to international relations. Students in the International Studies division travel to Australia for ten weeks and also take elective courses open to all students in the division, regardless of year. Students learn foreign languages and other skills that they will need to participate in this age of globalization and advance along a path that allows them to cultivate their own creativity and special talents.

Department of Foreign Languages
2001 Graduate of the International Studies Division, NIHS
• Three years blessed with good friends and good teachers

Because classes in the International Division are very small, the environment there is ideal for learning. I have very fond memories of the friendships I made with other students and of staying late at school to prepare for the school festival. Going to Australia to study English is perhaps the most memorable event I participated in during my high school years. I was away from Japan for ten weeks. My memories of my homestay are like a dream to me, but when I remember saying goodbye to my host family, I cry even now. The experience allowed me to develop an international perspective. Also, I became very close with my teachers and the other students. This closeness enriched my high school years. I learned much during my three years at NIHS, but I am most proud of the friends that I made there and of the teachers, who were consistently helpful. I am pursuing my dreams at Nagoya University of Foreign Languages, but I will never forget my alma mater-Nagoya International High School.
